What Botox and its four
alternatives actually do.
Neurotoxins have been used medically since the 1970s. Safe and highly effective, treatments with Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, Xeomin and Daxxify give skin a smooth, renewed appearance that still looks like you. They require zero downtime and are quick to administer. Your practitioner will recommend which of the five suits the area and the way your muscles behave.
Neurotoxins block the nerve signals that cause muscle movement. With the muscle quieted, the skin above it stops being folded — so existing lines soften and new ones are slower to form.
A few tiny injections, usually completed in under thirty minutes.

How much treatment will I need?
The amount of neurotoxin you need depends on which areas are being treated — the 11s between the brows, the forehead, the crow's feet — on how strong your facial muscles are, and on how deep your existing lines sit. Dosing is measured in units and differs between the five products we use, so the number is set at your consultation rather than quoted in advance.
Does it hurt?
Most people describe neurotoxin injections as a tiny pinch. The needle is very fine, the injections are quick, and each area takes only a few seconds. The whole appointment runs under thirty minutes including the assessment, so very little of it is spent with a needle anywhere near you.
What is the downtime?
Neurotoxin has effectively no downtime, and most people go straight back to work. You will be asked to stay upright for four hours, to avoid exercise and alcohol for twenty-four hours, not to massage the treated area for four to six hours, and to leave facials for a week. Those instructions keep the product where it was placed.
How long do results last?
Neurotoxin results typically last three to five months, depending on the area treated, how active your muscles are, and how your body metabolises the product. You start to notice the effect at five to seven days and it is complete at fourteen, so the first fortnight is not what the result will look like.
Are Botox, Dysport and Daxxify the same?
They are all botulinum toxin injectables used to soften and prevent wrinkles, but their formulations differ, and so do how quickly they take effect and how long they last. We use five — Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, Xeomin and Daxxify — and the choice is made per area rather than once for everyone.
Are there side effects?
Neurotoxin injections are common and low-risk. The effects reported most often are headaches and minor bruising or swelling at the injection site, and even those are uncommon. Rarely, the product can affect a neighbouring muscle and cause temporary drooping, which resolves as the effect wears off. Clients who are pregnant or nursing are not eligible.
How much does it cost?
Neurotoxin is priced by the unit, so the cost follows your dose — which areas are treated, how strong the muscles are, and which of the five products is used.
